Overview

Bromley Talking Therapies is part of the national NHS Talking Therapies programme (formerly Improving Access to Psychological Therapies). We offer evidence-based support for you if you are suffering from depression or a range of anxiety disorders.

We will help you, if you receive Sickness Benefit and are off work due to anxiety or depression. We work with you if you are at risk of losing your job due to the problems that you are experiencing. We will support you and your employer, working closely with Job Centre Plus and other local agencies who are able to provide employment support.

The service offers one-to-one counselling and group sessions (often called talking therapies) in person, on the telephone and even via a computer, to help you find ways to treat or cope with your condition.

The experienced team includes Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs), psychologists, counsellors, therapists and mental health practitioners who will work with you to understand your thoughts, feelings and what triggers them and offer advice and strategies to deal with them.

You can self-refer to your local IAPT service by clicking here or if you are over 18 and registered with a Bromley GP you can find out more about NHS Bromley Talking Therapies and self-refer on the dedicated website: bromleytalkingtherapies.nhs.uk.

Your first appointment

On your first visit to the service you will meet one of the team, who will talk to you about your condition and try to find out a bit more about you.  During the session – which will be a friendly discussion – we’ll try to offer support and suggest things you can do to help tackle your condition. If we think it would be helpful we may then suggest further appointments, joining a group or exercises you can try on your own.
