BHCPlus Private Healthcare offers a private-pay service for stammering for adults.

Our services are delivered virtually by Susie Lloyd, a highly specialist stammering therapist based in the United Kingdom.

Proceeds from BHCPlus Private Healthcare are reinvested back into Bromley Healthcare, supporting our services, workforce and local communities.

Stammering (also known as stuttering) is a difference in the way some people speak. Words may sometimes feel stuck or out of control, and this can involve repetitions, prolongations or blocks. Stammering can vary from day to day and from one situation to another, and no two people experience it in the same way.

Our service focuses on helping you make the changes you want to see in your communication and daily life.

BHCPlus offers a specialist stammering service with:

  • personalised, one-to-one care
  • excellent outcomes
  • short waiting times
  • flexible appointment options to fit around work and life

You will work collaboratively with a Highly Specialist Stammering Therapist to explore your stammer in a supportive space.

This private stammering therapy service is for adults who stammer, whether you have stammered since childhood or your stammer has developed more recently. There is no right or wrong time to start therapy. Many people are surprised by how much stammering therapy has changed compared with earlier experiences.

This service is for adults who stammer and are looking for specialist support with their communication.

You may find this service helpful if:

4. Review and next steps – Together we review progress and discuss whether further sessions would be helpful.

What’s included

Initial comprehensive assessment

Your journey starts with a comprehensive stammering assessment. This provides you with dedicated time to explore your communication in detail and helps ensure that any therapy offered is right for you.

The assessment includes:

  • a detailed discussion about your stammer and how it affects your daily life
  • exploration of speaking situations that feel easier or more challenging
  • discussion of your goals and what you would like to change about your communication
  • professional clinical recommendations tailored to you

Following the assessment, you will receive clear feedback and a recommendation about next steps. There is no obligation to continue to therapy unless you feel it is right for you.

Therapy packages

If you choose to proceed following assessment, you can book one of the therapy packages below.

Package 1: Increasing freedom in communication (6 sessions)

This package focuses on reducing habits that may have developed to avoid, postpone or hide stammering, such as:

  • changing what you want to say

The aim is to support you to speak more freely and spontaneously, with reduced anxiety, frustration or embarrassment around speaking.
