National HIV Testing Week helps to promote testing for the most-affected groups in the UK. Regular HIV testing helps reduce the number of people living with undiagnosed HIV and prevent people being diagnosed late.
The number of people with HIV in the UK is falling however there is still a lot of work to do. 1 in 16 people have HIV and don’t know. There is also still a problem with late diagnosis – with 42% of people being diagnosed late in 2019.
In Bromley the rates of HIV are high and so it is very important that more people get tested. You can have a HIV test even if you do not have any signs and symptoms.
The symptoms of primary infection are similar to flu:
- sore throat
- high temperature
- rash
