National Fitness Day

National Fitness Day 2021 will take place on Wednesday 22nd September and is a chance to highlight the role physical activity plays across the UK, helping us raise awareness of its importance in helping us lead healthier lifestyles through being physical active.

5 Simple Ways to Increase Physical Activity on National Fitness Day:

Get your steps in!

Swap the lift for the stairs – this is an example of a simple but effective way to increase your heart rate and get you up and about. Whether you are on your way into work or going to get lunch, use the stairs and gets those steps in!

On your feet

Being inactive/sitting too much is linked to health issues including diabetes and poor fitness so getting up and moving about regularly is important. You could do this by getting a standing desk while you work, or just simply breaking up the day by doing short bursts of activity (this could be a quick walk round the building).

Get off one stop early

If you can, try and change your travel routine during the week – with a mix of public/car transport with walking. Get off the bus one stop early or park the car up the road and walk the rest of the way.

Go out for lunch!

Some gyms will offer lunch break workouts, or if you aren’t a gym person then even a short walk outside can help boost your physical activity.
