Hollybank Children’s Short Break Service rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted

Hollybank Children’s Short Break Service has received a rating of ‘Good’ following a recent Ofsted inspection conducted on 11 February 2025.

Hollybank provides a specialised short break service for children and young people with complex healthcare needs, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorder and associated challenging behaviours. Hollybank staff deliver care within a safe, friendly and homely environment where children and young people can relax, have fun and enjoy their stay. They help promote happy, healthy and independent lifestyles and encourage each child and young person to develop skills to enable them to achieve their full potential.

The Ofsted inspector highlighted the thoughtful approach staff take to matching children for their stays, recognising their deep understanding of each child’s individual needs. Inspectors noted that children experience a cheerful and supportive environment, tailored specifically to their interests and development.

Parents, carers and social workers highlighted the positivity of children and young people’s experiences. One parent said, “They care for my child and love them like I do. This makes me feel safe with my child in their care.” A teacher praised staff for how they prepare children for adulthood, described communication as “strong” and commented on the close working with teachers to create a consistent approach.

Nicola Dean, Registered Manager at Hollybank, said:

“The Ofsted report highlights how children and families genuinely benefit from their experiences at Hollybank. It’s rewarding to know our approach makes a meaningful difference to children’s lives and reassures families their loved ones are in safe hands.”

Sharon Smith, Head of SEND and Partnership working for Bromley Healthcare, said:

“Our staff work hard to make sure children and young people have positive experiences at Hollybank. We’re proud of the inclusive, caring environment we’ve created and the confidence families place in our service.”
