Bromley Healthcare are proud to announce shortlistings in two prestigious categories at the 2024 HSJ Awards.

Dr. Lynette Linkson, Clinical Director of the Bromley Hospital at Home service for adults, has been shortlisted for the Clinical Leader of the Year award, while Bromley Healthcare’s innovative Health Visiting initiative has been recognised in the Workforce Initiative of the Year category.

1350+ entries have been received for this year’s Awards. The high volume and exceptional quality of applications showcases the impressive levels of innovation and care continually being developed within the UK’s healthcare networks

Clinical Leader of the Year: Dr. Lynette Linkson

Dr. Lynette Linkson’s nomination recognises her outstanding leadership of the Bromley Hospital at Home service for adults, which provides hospital-level care to patients in their own homes. Launched in 2022, this service was developed through a collaborative partnership between One Bromley Partners—Bromley Healthcare, the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), the South East London Integrated Care Board, and St Christopher’s Hospice—in response to challenges such as bed shortages and the impact of hospital stays on vulnerable adults and frail older people.

Under Dr. Linkson’s leadership, Hospital at Home has achieved significant outcomes. Since its launch, the programme has seen a significant increase in the number of patients it cares for each month. The service now supports a thousand patients a year, allowing more people to receive high-quality care in the comfort of their homes. The service’s innovative use of technology has also led to a reduction in the average length of stay for patients, ensuring quicker recoveries and more efficient use of resources.

Financially, the programme has achieved substantial cost savings, particularly through remote monitoring and point of care testing, which has reduced the need for home and hospital visits. Patient feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with over 90% of patients reporting an excellent or very good experience with the service.

Dr. Lynette Linkson, Clinical Director at One Bromley, said, “Setting up Bromley’s Hospital at Home Service for adults I have been lucky to work with an incredible team who share a vision for personalised hospital level care at home. Together Bromley residents have informed the service design, collaborating with the team to keep improving our offer.

For me it’s all about understanding people, what matters to them and how we can build services which work for them when they want to be at home. I am so proud of the progress we have made and the recognition that this award can bring for all those who keep working to improve care across Bromley.”

Workforce Initiative of the Year: Bromley Healthcare’s Health Visiting Initiative

Bromley Healthcare’s Health Visiting initiative has been recognised for its significant achievements in improving recruitment, retention, and overall workforce development across Bromley, Bexley, and Greenwich. Faced with a critical shortage of health visitors, the initiative focused on workforce development, well-being, and recognition, leading to a reduction in vacancy rates by 21% over the past year, bringing them down to just 7%, well below the national average.

This success was driven by strong partnerships with local universities, the Institute of Health Visiting, and other stakeholders. The introduction of Student Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) development roles and the implementation of the Strengthening Families model were key elements in the initiative’s success.

Caroline Whitford, Head of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich Health visiting services at Bromley Healthcare, said, “We are truly honoured to be shortlisted for the Workforce Initiative of the Year award at the HSJ Awards 2024. This recognition reflects the incredible dedication of our team and the success of our collaborative efforts with local partners. By working together, we’ve not only strengthened our workforce but also enhanced the care we provide to our community’s most vulnerable families.”

HSJ editor Alastair McLellan added, “I am pleased to congratulate our finalists at this stage of the judging process, and this year is no exception as we acknowledge Bromley Healthcare for being shortlisted in both the Clinical Leader of the Year and Workforce Initiative of the Year categories. The HSJ Awards are an opportunity to celebrate successes and also to contribute to shaping the future of the NHS. We look forward to welcoming our finalists to the awards ceremony in November.”

The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at Evolution London on 21st November 2024.
