Private-pay Autism and ADHD Assessments

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD, commonly known as Autism) and ADHD are neurodevelopmental conditions that present differently in every child. Autism is primarily defined by challenges in social communication, rigid routines, and restricted interests, whereas ADHD is characterised by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

Our self-pay assessment pathway is designed for parents and carers who would like a trusted, clinically governed assessment outside of NHS waiting times. 

This service is suitable for:

Age range: 3-18 for ASD assessments and 6-18 for ADHD assessments

Your child will be assessed by the clinicians highly experienced in neurodevelopmental assessment, including: 

• Neurodevelopmental Paediatricians 

• Psychologists 

• Speech and Language Therapists 

• Occupational Therapists 

• Psychiatrists 

All assessments follow Bromley Healthcare’s clinical governance processes. 

We have designed a clear, supportive pathway so you always know what to expect. 

1. Initial enquiry 

Contact our team via email at bromh.bhcplus@nhs.net. We will take some initial details and explain the next steps. 

2. Free clinical triage 

We ask you, your child (if appropriate), and their school to complete ASD/ADHD screening questionnaires. These help us understand your child’s profile and decide on whether assessment is indicated and plan the most appropriate assessment pathway. 

3. Assessment appointment(s) 

Your child will be seen by the most suitable clinicians based on the triage outcome. The assessment may include: 

• developmental history interview 

• Clinical examination of the child 

• structured observation 

• Assessment of speech &, language, attention and social communication  

• use of recognised diagnostic tools such as ADOS –2, 3di

• Quantitative Behaviour Test (Qb test) in selected cases 

4. Outcome and feedback 

We bring together all assessment information to form a clinical opinion. This will be fed back to parents/young person by the clinicians.  

5. Written report 

You will receive a clear, detailed report with practical recommendations for home & school with information on local / national support services.

• For ASD assessments, you'll likely meet with two clinicians who work as a team 

• Sole ADHD assessments are usually done by single clinician  

• You will be asked detailed questions about your/your child’s developmental history, social life, daily routines, interests, strengths, and challenges 

• Clinicians will watch how you (or your child) interact with them and others, using structured play or activities to assess communication and social skills 

• The clinicians will gather information from pre-assessment forms, questionnaires and potentially reports from GPs, schools or nurseries 

• A parent, carer, or someone who has known you since childhood is crucial and will often be interviewed separately to provide lifelong context, as autism / ADHD are lifelong conditions. 

• Parents might talk in one room while the child does activities with a clinician in another, helping them feel more comfortable. 

• The initial appointment can last from an hour to half a day for the full assessment 

• Free initial clinical triaging to look for suitability for assessment  

• Parent, child (if appropriate), and school questionnaires 

• One or more assessment appointments 

• Clinical review by the multidisciplinary team 

• Feedback session 

• Written report with recommendations 

• Signposting to local support services

To receive Services, you will need to enter into a contract with us. Your contract will be between you and Bromley Healthcare Community Interest Company. The process set out below will apply to form the contract: 

Initial contact and ASD/ADHD questionnaires: Following receipt of your enquiry, our Service Administrator will contact you directly and send the registration form, the parental ASD/ADHD questionnaire(s) and the school ASD/ADHD questionnaire(s) to yourself in order to provide details about your child’s background and medical history.  

Triage: Following the receipt of the health information and questionnaires, triaging will be performed to look at the suitability for the ASD/ADHD assessment. We reserve the right to make a decision not to progress to the assessment based on the triaging information.   

Following Triage: Where a decision has been made at triage to proceed to the assessment stage, we will send you an email with details of the specific assessment pathway within our Services that is most applicable to you and also an invoice for payment.  

Your request for Services: If you wish to proceed, you must return to us a signed version of these Terms and Conditions and make payment of the invoice.  

Accepting your request for our Services. Our acceptance of your request for our Services takes place when we receive the signed Terms and Conditions and payment of the invoice, at which point the contract between you and us will come into existence. 

If we cannot accept your request for our Services: If we are unable to supply you with our Services for any reason, we will inform you of this by email and we will not process your request for our Services. If you have already paid for the Services, we will refund you the full amount including any delivery costs charged as soon as possible. 

Booking the Appointment: The Appointments for the initial neuro-developmental assessment and further assessments will be booked on receipt of the signed Terms and Conditions and payment.  

Diagnostic Report: A detailed diagnostic report will be provided to you after completion of the whole assessment.   

Method of payment: All payments of invoices can be made via debit or credit card, or via bank transfer.  

Invoice: You will be emailed an invoice as part of your request for Services   

Will this affect my child’s NHS care?
No. This service operates separately from NHS pathways and does not affect your position on NHS waiting lists. 

Will schools recognise the report?
Our reports follow recognised clinical standards and support SEND processes. 

Do you assess girls and young people who mask?
Yes, our clinicians are experienced in assessing children who present subtly or camouflage their needs. 

Can you assess both ASD and ADHD?
Yes, where clinically appropriate. 

Do we need school input?
We strongly encourage school questionnaires to ensure a balanced assessment.
